A real tough time was had out bush bashing late yesterday afternoon. I don’t know what was up but I’m guessing 70% of dug targets were rubbish . Foil, iron, tabs, tops, rusty blobs, nails, wire… you name it and I was digging it! The Excalibur didn’t seem very settled either, there may have been overhead transmission wires, don’t know.
Anyway we all get those days, even the old disused ‘stairway to heaven’ was a bust. I was pleased to find and eventually ‘I.D’ the cool three penny weight.
What is the filigree silver item with arabic text?
I just pulled out the exact same spoon from 1800’s sawmill site on my farm, though mine was bent by bullocks (huge old bulls with massive horns).
A nice water hunt ended 2016. Probably my most successful as far as the non salt water variety. Three rings, two of which were back to back and only two feet apart! Once again no markings and doubtful as to there greatness but I’ll take them.
I have been to this spot many times both land and water hunting, and thought I would try a different approach… and I think it helped.
The back off an old pocket watch was found and a very unusual thingy - pipe related maybe.
Yeh go for it RE the sifter. I think after one or two prototypes you will work out what works for you and the type of material you usually work.
No I havnt got any testers diamond, silver or gold. The lake is tidal so a lot of the targets are quite oxidised or corroded in some way.
The last three hunts proved challenging with the good finds failing to surface.
First hunt a wee spin around in waist deep surf three targets only - screw, hair clip and alloy nut.
Second hunt a swimming spot that is semi popular and targets were once again very scarce indeed. The river can get extremely high when in flood though.
Another hunt… back to work is getting real close, so they will ease up.
