I need notice to make sure batteries are charged & that pick up is needed to be done the evening before when I will be home. And as I work I’m not on glide time for people to pick up when ever it suits during the day unfortunately, so please give plenty of notice and be flexible with pick up times.
I also would need a deposit to the value of the detector, for obvious reasons, which is refundable on return of the detector in the same condition as when taken. This will eliminate would be people who think they can hire for $50 & walk off with the detector ie, not returning it.
The trickiest detectors out of those to use would be the GPX 4500 & Nox 800. That is mostly to do with the amount of user adjustable settings. If you start fiddling with those & don’t know what you are doing you can really stuff things up. If left on the settings I have them on then they should be all good. The other two are basically turn on & go. The Gold Monster & the Nox 800 are VLF, very low frequency, detectors. While they are very sensitive to tiny gold on bedrock or shallow gold, they don’t like high concentrations of iron sand like in the Shotover River or the Arrow. That’s not true, they actually love it & that is there problem as they will just over load & drive you nuts. Those rivers are best suited for the Pulse Induction detectors with the SDC 2300 the better choice for a novice with less controls to trip you up. Iron sand & hot rocks can still be an issue but no where near as bad as on the VLF detectors.
5 Mile & 12 Mile no where as bad for iron sand. For a novice I would recommended the Gold Monster or SDC 2300. The nox 800 would be ok if you don’t play with the settings.
I can give a run down on operation & also an instruction card for out in the field to refresh yourself.
Any interest from any one in hiring a detector in Queenstown over the Xmas holiday period? I will be away from next Monday for at least a week up on the gold claim. If I find the mother load I may not be back.
But I am sure the weather will chase me out at some point.
Replied back to Kristiann but never heard back from him either. Strange how he & Derek were first time posters on the forum & wanting to hire a detector. My cynical mind thought down the track of them not returning my detectors. Truth is I would be asking for a deposit to the value of the detector that they would get back on return of the detector. That fair enough don’t you reckon?
Thats a good idea JW, I thought it was a great idea To hire out, but did think about something sinister happening. A bond to cover yourself is very resonable.
The fact they were both first time posters & wanting to hire a detector was the first red flag to me. The 2nd red flag was that they never spoke or yarned about there experiences or interest in gold fossicking. Nothing at all. That seems very odd to me that you come on to a gold forum & don’t talk gold.
Hi Golden, sorry if that came across a bit harsh. I actually work during the day. Builder by trade & I am out the door by 7.30 am. For future reference I do need a bit more notice than 3.51 am of the morning you are wanting to hire. I need to know what detector & need to make sure it is all charged up & ready to go. Best to make pickup in the evening of the day before when I will be home. I also need a deposit to the value of the detector hired, for obvious reasons, which is refundable with return of the detector in the same condition as when you took it. Plus any gold you find goes to me as well. Na, just kidding with that last bit.
Hi there Kritiann. I have only just seen your message. I am taking it that you want it today Monday at 10 am. I am sorry but too short a notice as I am off to work right now & don’t have time to organise it or charge up batteries etc.
