What’s this rock?

I’m new to detecting and found this rock near Dunedin today, it pinged in the 90s and is quite heavy. When I got home I cracked it open, it’s quite shiny on the inside. Id really appreciate help identifying it so I can learn more about what I find in the future.

My guess is Hematite. Is it magnetic, have you given it the taste test, touched it on your tongue to see what taste it gives?

Thanks for the reply, I`ve now licked it and it’s left the end of my tongue with a metallic kind of tingle, the rock isn’t magnetic and I read that hematite can conduct electricity so tried to scroll my phone and it didn’t scroll it, hope this info helps a bit more.

Hematite is magnetic so that rules that out. Was it found near a hard rock gold mine area or old stamper battery. Is the taste a sulphury like taste/smell?

Didn`t really taste, just tingle, found it in a carpark on the Otago Peninsula.

Could be some kind of slag material.
