Have to wonder who is selling these detectors.

But the specialist metal detector, brought in from the North Island because it could detect brass and bronze, was unable to locate any trace of the memorials.

LOL, yeah, laughed when I read that.

Crack me up too. The cheapest of detectors would have found them.
Obviously they are not there anymore to be found.
Brass and bronze fetch reasonable prices at the scrap yard im thinkin.
