Sluice building

Hi everyone,

Looking at building my own sluice as purchased ones seem expensive. Has anyone done this before who might have some builds or guidance? thinking just some plywood, an old rubber welcome mat and some astro turf with some sort of metal framing over it with some holes cut in.

Keene type sluices do seem more inflated than many gold claims. I’d stay clear of a wood build as it will get waterlogged and become heavy as. Best bet is find some roofing offcuts and shape those up. If you can’t do that won’t cost much to get something folded up somewhere like a roofers yard. You can fashion up something out of wood if you are handy so as to do the metal folding. Same with the rifles but if you can’t afford a welder just make wooden ones. Carpet is easy, just look for a hardware shop that sells backed mats, it’s just like the miners mat in the bought sluices. Then just figure out your set up and add whatever sized mesh or punch plate, all salvageable from an engineering yard from their offcuts pile, or a waste transfer station in the metal heap.

Do a search on you tube. There are heaps of builds on there.

You might like the poop tube sluice option as a quick and easy option:

Made my first box out of wood…but decided after 2 uses to save up and get one fabricated using the specifications found in the great little gold book, ‘gold in your bottle’ s an j fairservice Christchurch. I added a flume the carpet (32 yo astroturf!)slips neatly under and folded sides for strength not to forget riffles made fron an old bread crate bottom.

Hey mate I am assuming that’s the blue stuff? I can absolutely find something to use i;m sure. worst case ill get some astroturf! where are you based? I think that’s a deal!

Queenstown, I’ve got blue, green, black and purple in my garage.

Better yet I can sort you out with some new prototype mat that will get released next year if you like? I’ve lots of miss prints from the 3d printer you can have for the cost of postage?
