Show us ya Gold!

Not a bad day today, thought we were doing well finding all the grams of chunky pickers and flakes, only to find 3 large nuggets all over a gram each within a few minutes, just sitting almost on the surface mixed in with the clay (a good foot above bedrock) all within 10 metres of each other, almost seemed to be in an old timers tailings pile of sorts, but couldn’t be sure.

Cheers, The Sluicers

Kia ora guys, i am planning a trip to nelson creek on Thursday morning and possibly goldsborough on my way back to chch Friday evening.

I was wondering if anyone been to nelson creek and or goldsborough over the past week or so. Just wondering what the water levels are like currently for sluicing. I usually just go to slab hut creek, for ease of access and have always got a bit of the sparkly stuff for my jar each time.

I have never been to nelson creek public area before, i am quite excited as it is two different creek claims.

do you recommend prices creek, or claughesys creek in this fossicking area. How far is the walk to each of these fossicking areas from the campground?

Happy golding,

Tane.

Hi Tane, all creeks were high flow with recent rain on coast. Should drop pretty fast overnight. There is some content on YouTube related to Nelson creek. I think “ the sluicers” channel may show you the way. Also “glens adventures”.

Few wee bits of otago gold. Out of a well flogged area. Probably close to 50hrs of time if not a touch more on the ground to pick those up. And alot of kms walked. Plenty of nails and 22 projectiles found as well.

Hi Cam. Well you certainly worked for those then. Well done. Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt Matagouri stick.

I went back to my little run of bedrock that I have been scrapping down to & scrubbing with the old dishwashing brush to clean out the schist down in between the up on edge layers. Using the Gold Monster 1000 I ended up with 20 little buggers for half a gram. Only spent a couple of hours at it just for shits & giggles.

Good luck out there

Nice.

Certainly have worked for them. Having real trouble getting onto anything. All but one bit has come out of an area about 10x10m. Have covered alot of ground that is yielding nothing but bloody boot nails or nothing. You’ll know roughly the area ive been in. But finding the 5000 very chattery. Might have to get you to have a look at it sometime if your down this way. Not sure if it is normal or not. Or i need to get it away to be looked at.

Is it like an EMI problem? I found EMI quite problematic at times in that area. That cell phone tower can be a cause of it as well as the little township, or electric fences in the area. On a fine day the sun, believe it or not, can be an influence too. Solar influence. Overcast days were better I found evening & night detecting things ran real stable. Chalk & cheese. I feel your pain with boot nails, .22 shells & their lead bullet heads. Bloody rabbit shooters :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Happened to get real lucky a couple of months ago and managed to find this among the old timers workings with my trusty equinox 800

You don’t/needn’t tell where it came from. So no cat out of the bag. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi guys. Hope you all had a great Christmas.

I went back to my little run of bedrock the other day & carried on with my scrape & detect using the Gold Monster 1000. Still coughing up fly shit for me. 15 bits for .31 of a gram.

Best of luck out there

My son has come over from Brisbane with partner & two little grandkids that I hadn’t met. Staying for a couple of weeks. He is pretty keen on getting out there looking for gold. He has done a bit of detecting over on Aussie with a bit of success. He got himself a GPZ 7000 with a 12” Nuggetfinder Z search coil. He hasn’t used it yet but has a gold mission coming up next year with a mate. Heading up to the Clermont Area somewhere. He was keen to bring it over here but I said just bring the coil as you can just used my Zed. Save you lugging yours over here.

We went for a detect to a local spot, which my last post was the result of my goldmonster gold. He got nothing with the Zed & his 12” coil wasn’t behaving & playing nicely. I was hoping it wasn’t my Zed & suspected it was his coil. We went for an E bike mission for the day yesterday. Left home at 6.45am. Bit of a drive & then a bit of an up hill ride for 45 minutes. Hadn’t done that for a few years & I certainly noticed it. Got to a gully of old timer working. Rigged up the Zed & straight off the bat his coil wasn’t playing nicely at all. Luckily I took along one of my Russian X coils & we swapped over. That played a sweet tune. So yep, something up with his coil.

He got no gold but a pocket full of junk & I was swinging the GPX 6000 with little 10 X 5 coiltek goldhawk. I managed 5 little bits for less than quarter of a gram & a pocket of 35 shotgun pellets. There were heaps I threw away too. So not very successful on the gold front. I was knacked when I got home. Big effort for stuff all. I did see tell tale signs that someone had been there not too long before us. I wonder how they did.
