Returned to the same spot but the gold has thinned out on me, onto the next spot. Still great to enjoy a cold one on the River with the sun out.

Well done. Great to see some gold. I am getting withdrawal symptoms - for a lot of reasons Gold, alcohol, Sex, more gold and gold again.

Just being in the gorge was cold enough let alone being in the water was dam cold even with the right gear… only got 3hours in the river, but some nice pickers to show for it :ok_hand:

A friend at work asked if I would sell him an ounce of gold. I said sure but gold is currently over 4k an ounce. At that he baulked & said how about half an ounce. Yep I said, 2k. Which he took. When I got a little container of gold I had detected from a spot over the years to sell him I weighed it & was surprised there was over 13 ounces. That spot still coughs up a few bits now & again but all sub gram bits.

Not 100% sure but it looks like cinnabar :slight_smile:

If it’s the taieri, probably rubys

Depending on where you are it may be Cinnabar which is Mercury ore. It does look like it.

Hi Lammerlaw, I am working in the Waipori river, so that is a high possibility of it being cinnabar then (my memory tells me there was mine up above the village somewhere)

My guess is cinnabar too. Waipori River is Mr Lammerlaws back yard. He would know. :wink:
You could try heating some up & see if it sweats out some mercury beads. Do that outside with plenty of ventilation & don’t breath in the fumes.

@TussockGold. Is that you Bligh?

Looked online into cinnabar from suggestions above and certainty looks like it could be…have never come across it before on any of my gold missions…
Ha i now plan to pan my fines better in the future before i burn off the water inside on my stovetop!
Gday no not Bligh… he may have a claim on the upper waipori ? I am from the lake down to below number 4 powerstation on the waipori cheers :ok_hand:

As I said in my above post about that area still coughing up the odd bit now & again. I went there for a few hours last Sunday & four more bits came to light. But as I also said these days they are all sub gram bits. Four bits for a total of point 47 of a gram. The smallest was just point 03. :roll_eyes: But gold is gold & it all adds up.

These pics of the first bit dug up.

Got a cold wet shitty day today in QT
