I am currently working on a gold history/info educational video for the shotover river and was wondering if anyone had some historical info/stories to share, I would love to make the video as interesting/accurate and info filled as possible so any info would be highly appreciated!
Obviously I know all the basic information and a couple of the main stories after a thorough scour of the internet and a few books I have got, but anything further or even just further reinforcements on the basics would be great!
Hi, the early days of in central Otago is a great read…1930’s book but reprinted multiple times. Stories on all the Rush’s through lake county… Dunstan, arrow , Shotover ect
Hi Dillion, a0re you planning to travel down to do any filming? A couple of good places you could gather some info if here would be the museum in Arrowtown and the old school house out at Skippers. I have a book here somewhere written by Hammy (bit of a famous oldtimer from around these parts) a lot of good stories in it. Il dig it up along with another 1 or 2 I have and see if I can send you some info. I have you on messenger from a trade we did not long ago👍
Find yourself a copy of Let There Be Light - the Story of Bullendale.
1906 Mining Handbook has a lot of information.
If you want to publish something then go to the Hocken Library and ask to see the early photographs they have there…my goldmining partners sister gave them the very first photos ever taken in the Skippers. Sadly I do not know her name but may have been donated by Ruth White - married name Horne possibly or possibly by an Aspinal. (same family)
