I grew up on that river, a fun time, good luck getting through the over burden gravel…
The bucket dredges of old probably did a good job of getting through that.

certainly below the ophir gorge the bedrock would be very deep , but some nice shallow patches thru the gorge also some big boulders , pretty good gold river tho , fish and chips or KFC only 15 min drive how many claims have that lol

no bucket dredging was done in the Gorge at all , in the peak of it 18 bucket dredges worked the manuherikia

No but was either side. Gorge a tad too rocky & narrow.

Bloody good claim - very little black sand and some nice pieces. Plus its some of the most pure gold in nz
