With the price of gold going up and the new tier 3 permit coming out I just have a few questions.
For a small hobby claim say on Doc land . How much does it cost and how hard is it to get an access agreement?
With resource consent for running say a 4 inch dredge how hard is this to obtain and the cost involved? I know different councils will have different rules. For argument sake let’s use Otago and the West Coast. Anyone have any information on this . Just something to also consider when applying for a claim.
its not to bad infact its got cheaper i believe $2783 to NZPAM and if you use a consultant there probably a couple ks on top of that , claims on Doc if you can pull it off are the best land lords to have the property wont change hands and acsess is generally good long term, we dont pay for acsess ground on doc land
Don’t forget for Westland there is a permitted activity rule for dredging so you can easily operate within those rules. Then for Otago much of the region is permitted too under Rule 13.5.1.7, so its really only rivers with likely galaxiid populations that need consent.
So if you apply for permit under these rules does it make the application more easily acceptable? My thinking being that if you’re looking at a potential claim on DOC land it’s going to be more favourable regarding access and consents? Less hassles perhaps?
I been trying tell people not to involve doc if ya get council stuff through ya have already over ridden doc but some people appear to be paying doc more than permits and water discharge licences cost through councils, some fella while back reconed he was paying doc $8500 on top of everything else im pretty sure he said per annum. Smh
But you need to pay DOC for access across DOC land dont you? Is it worth the risk of not consulting DOC and then getting into a sh.t fight with them once you’ve applied etc? Are you saying they have no authority around dredging?
Unfortunately this is wrong. You need council(s) approvals and access with doc if on doc land. Doc will make your life miserableif youre caught on thier land without authority. Not having approval will also be breaching your nzpam permit conditions.
DOC Conservation Land for Motorised equipment = Access Arrangement + Authority to Enter & Operate must be granted before you can start work on the claim. If caught by DOC (Enforcement Officers by law under the Crown Act), gear can be confiscated & if NZPAM are notified, permit will most probaly be cancelled due to breaching it. 84%-ish of West Coast land is Conservation Land, managed by DOC.
Risk vs reward of running the gauntlet is a personal decision I guess
