You know what Mal, I reckon Kiwi’s are a slack bunch when it comes to standing up for the rights & freedoms we have/had that due to lack of people giving a fu#k we will one day have nothing left. Then it is too late & no point them then say they wish they had done something about it. Too late to shut the gate when all the sheep have bolted.
I was gob smacked to learn from Dunedin City Council about their Proposed water supply bylaw & their changes to land access through “their” land to get to the Te Papanui Conservation Park. They were wanting to deny that access to the public through “their” land, which in my eyes is the rate payers land as they paid for it, but they gave a window of time for people, groups & organisations like walking & tramping clubs, hunting & fishing etc to have their say by putting forward or replying to their submission. Only 18 people put in a submission. I was one of them. What clout do 18 people have? F all.
Yes I have to agree with you John.. we can be quite complacent in these matters .. although I’ really appreciate all that have signed I did think I would get a little more signatures than this.. I mean paydirt community is 11k strong .. I have 16k follows on my facebook page .. some of the gold prospecting FB groups are 10-15k strong .. This is to create more public fossicking areas for all Nzers for generations to come and I’m hardly getting 10% to sign off?
And in your case too its bad enough that councils put these policies into place under the radar or with minimal community engagement and then only a few who are directly effected bother have a say.
i can see the govt moving heaven and earth to get this implemented….
see, this is the problem when people operate inside an echo chamber. they find out big issues to them are really an epic nothing in the real world…. then end up get butthurt about it
We will have to see gogold.. PAMNZ’s said it would be good to get over 2000 signed and we’ll make that.. so see what happens .. not sure about butthurt gogold .. nothing ventured nothing gained.. thanks for your unwavering support though bro!
like they say. its the squeaky door that gets the oil. maybe nothing will come of this petition but who knows. it might just get the ball rolling and there will be no progress ever if we just sit on our arses and do nothing. i say well done mal and everyone who has signed.
