I went out to 12 mile today and leaving the carpark i meet two guys from NZPAM.
They were surprised that there is no fossicking signs at any of the otago sites they have visited.
They were friendly and were able to answer a few questions i had.

What are they actually policing / enforcing ?
Did they look like they could change a spare wheel or nah ?

Business card says “senior compliance officer” both were in overalls with NZPAM logo embroidered on them. Also was able to let me know a little info about the timeline on the person who was seen dredging the arrow. The person was tracked down 6 months after the event and given a warning.
I think they were just doing site inspections.

Wonder what they were up to? I went for a walk out there also at start of the week. Noticed there were now lots of signs. All of them stating you can’t park anywhere, no camping etc. They’ve even chained and locked the access road. Not fossicking friendly if that’s what they were looking at. All done to keep freedom campers at bay but if anyone was looking at hauling in their sluicebox it’s now a fair hike in from the doc carpark down the road. I hear the bridge up the track is still destroyed. With the massive amount of rain there is no way across the side creek.
Where there is a will there is a way. You’re going to get your feet wet anyway.

Was that you parked up the top of the hill? If it was be aware council are handing out fines up there and all along the front of the road
Aren’t they creating enough revenue with their massive rate increases. Got to pay for the CEO’s $40,000 pay rise some how I suppose. Poor bugger. Bloody criminal. White collar crime at its best.
