Nugget 5-15g wanting

I’m looking for a gift for my first born granddaughter for her first birthday in a couple of months.
Anyone have a nugget they would part with that captures my attention and willing to sell at spot price?

Haven’t personally found anything of significance to pass on unfortunately but pretty cool gift in my opinion, and to think what it maybe worth at her 18th birthday :person_shrugging:

A 5-15 gram nugget is worth more than spot price. So unless someone is feeling very generous I don’t think you will get what you are wanting… for spot price.

Please excuse my ignorance, is there a reason for nuggets to be worth more than spot? Is it simply the relative rarity of them? How much more than spot would be reasonable to assume?

Was offered above spot for my 4.8g nugget it never goes down

Local gold shop will buy nuggets up to 30% above spot.
They say people don’t appreciate how rare nuggets are. The bigger they are the more they’re worth above spot price.
Ferk totally agree. Not very often they turn up, slucing and detecting or sniping.

Yes, natural gold nuggets are lumps of gold left by nature. Not the quartz crushed & chemically treated microscopic gold that is melted into the gold bars or coins of the big commercial operations. So natural gold nuggets, as nature has “gifted” to the lucky finder, has a rarity & intrinsic value. Depending on the size, weight, shape & character of the piece/pieces, the sky is the limit. To a collector of these natural beauties that could be huge But here is a guide.

I couldn’t find the chart I was after that showed a percentage above spot price that was used as a guide depending on the purity, size & charactor of the gold nuggets. After reading the above links you will get the picture of why nuggets are worth more than spot price on processed rock to get the gold. So a 15 gram nugget, that’s almost half an ounce, is going to be worth more than a 5 gram nugget. From memory a 5 gram slug was about 15% above spot. Depending on its character it could be more if it is crystalline, or an attractive gold in quartz specimen.

Hope that helped.

Thanks JW, no denying you’re a wealth of knowledge.
Manually sourced gold is a beautiful thing in any size, shape or form, I respect the effort that goes into finding it and understand larger pieces have premium value.
If possible I will edit my post to reflect this.

I don’t think there is a fixed premium that applies to larger nuggets over and above spot price. It depends largely on what the prospective buyer may or may not find appealing in a nugget that is offered for sale. I know that if I found a large nugget I could expect to sell it to my regular gold buyer for spot - 1% on the actual gold content of the piece. That’s all it’s worth on the international bullion market. However there will be people who are prepared to pay a premium for certain pieces. It can vary widely what you actually achieve at sale for them. I personally don’t sell anything over 1g unless I’m desperate. I’ve found that even small nuggets below 1g in weight can achieve significant premiums over spot price on trademe

Yes, but on trademe the seller has the trademe fee to come off the sale price. But I must admit, some small pieces on trademe go for crazy high prices. Some/most photos of the small pieces make them look a lot bigger than they really are. To the experienced the weight will give them away. So it is just a matter of doing the sums on the weight & the spot price.

Love to find someone sitting on a 1/4 oz nugget and willing to sell.
I have learnt a nugget like this is well worth above spot price. Please get in touch if you have something

What then do you feel you would be prepared to pay for an 8 gram nugget now you know why it is worth more than spot price? See if you can tempt me to part with one.
