So, this is the new permit type for all of us hobby gold hunters!?

Wow yeah… looks like its up and running already! Thanks Uncle Shane !

Hey team, just chucking it out there, i would be intrested in going in with another 1 or 2 people on a hobby claim if anyones intrested. Pm me. South Island probably prefer west coast. Currently located in Chch.

Is this the new tier 3 permit they been talking about ? I followed the link and it said last updated April 2024. Price for application seems to be around the price for the current tier 2 permit but I could be wrong. I’m on the West Coast and definitely keen to go in on a claim with a couple of others. Hit me up .

Is anyone able to outline the benefits of the tier three permit in simple terms for me? I was hoping it would be cheaper to apply for than the current tier? It seems to me that cost and what is potentially excessive paperwork were the hurdles for hobby guys with the tier two. Doesn’t look like the tier 3 changes that too much?

Hey, juat reading over it i dont think thats the new tier 3. Should be out later this year. Sounds like it will be less compliance and possiabily fees and regs.

This is not the new permitting system the government has been working on to change, the new changes are due in 2025 July, that’s if they stick to there schedule

So, what is this then?

With the tier 3 permit due out later this year. (If it happens) I am keen to put in a claim just for a hobby maybe a small dredge or high banker. I’m not made of money so would be keen to partner up with someone that is keen and not a tire kicker. Or even if someone is going through the process now and wants a partner I could be keen.

Definitely has to be the West Coast as Otago is to far away for me.

I have been partners in a claim in Otago but had to sell my share due moving away from the area.

Flick me a pm if ya want. I’m keen

Any update on the so called tier 3 permit ? And I’m still keen to go in on a claim with someone to help off set the cost .

the Crown Minerals Amendment Bill has not yet passed into law (at the 3rd reading stage, I read that it could be going live 1st of July?)

The Regulatory impact statement had some good info, especially Annex 2: Summary comparison between gold fossicking, ‘hobby’ operations under the proposed Tier 3 permit and other Tier 2 mining operations

So whats the big difference here from the hobby dredging claims that are already in play? In layman’s terms… Cheers

I’m no expert, but I would say less complexity for applying for a claim and less compliance and cost. (see the differences between tier 2 and the proposed tier 3

All Tier 2 applications must cover the following.

  1. Capability:
    • Technical
    • Financial
    • Compliance
  2. Work Programme:
    • Activities – commencement, minimum
    production rate, any further exploration
  3. Economics:
    • Costs, capital and operating
    • Revenue
    • Scheduling
  4. Resource:
    • Delineation of a mineable resource
  5. Area and duration.
  6. Section 4 Treaty analysis, including any
submissions from iwi. This is a desktop
    exercise done by MBIE.

The regulator needs only to be satisfied that the
applicant is:

  1. likely to comply with the conditions (e.g. the
    specified equipment)
  2. pay the fees
  3. meet reporting obligations.
Past non-compliance may trigger a closer examination.
**The following will not be relevant:
    • Work Programme specification
    • Economics
    • Resource.
