Good morning all,
Just a quick reminder. For the ones that put in a submission, I hope you requested a Delivery / Read Receipt when you emailed it. I noticed this morning that I forgot. For those who live in the Queenstown area, the public meeting is in the Council Chambers, 10 Gorge Road, Queenstown beginning at 2.00pm this afternoon. You’d be allowed to speak for 3 minutes.
As I was originally thinking a delivery / read receipt was something we had to ask for in the submission until I twigged…
I assume you mean email functionality that is built into some email client like Microsoft Outlook when you say “I hope you requested a Delivery / Read Receipt”?
If so, unfortunately some email clients like Gmail don’t provide such an option - https://support.google.com/mail/forum/AAAAK7un8RU5vqP9NIGxks?hl=en so I myself couldn’t request one.
Agreed! Now I am just using letters to exceed twenty!
Correct, you also cannot request one if sending from your mobile phone.
DoC (Department of Constipation) showing their true colours. It is good to see that they did not win but they do tend to pee in the pockets of the wealthier land owners,
The remedy is so simple but the land owner and DoC dont want that either. DoC want you to walk on their fucking board walk walking tracks and no where else. They all want us to be like little electric trains and keep on set tracks…its all part of subtely controlling us. The remedy is to MOVE the paper road to the formed road and for the council to maintain the formed road! Simple simple simple - too simple for jugheads. This would be the same as cancelling the paper road and taking over the farm road access. The farmer being a wealthy land owner will have his head up DoC’s arse and DoC will be Kowtowing to him for what they want and fuck the rest of us! Its us who suffer and lose our rights.
I agree Lammerlaw what has been surprising is the level of non accountability and incompetence of officials in this situation. Whats also more concerning is the level of poor democratic process applied by QLDC who are tasked with upholding basic democratic principles.
Yes that is so true - unless we all do something smartly then this society is going to become an elitist society. Only big corporations will be permitted to mine and even claims such as the ones we had will be well beyond our reach AND ALL the gold will go offshore.
I am beginning to think that there is a good cause to consider the South Island separatist movement and then form a completely separate government and disallow any and all of those traitors who currently hold South Island seats from being part of it.
One of the interesting points is that the Government departments DO kowtow to the wealthy. This is more or less the exact statement that took place between myself and an Ecan official when I was involved in Canterbury environmental matters.
Me - Why are you allowing these farmers to extend their farms, run more cows and take more water when they are already affecting the environment adversely?
Puppet - Because we have to make a compromise between the demands of the environmental advocates and the farmers.
Me - So that if the farmers ask for ten ‘units’ today then you will allow them five and then next year they do the same and once again you ‘compromise’ so they get all they wanted and the remainder of society and the environment suffer…the fishermen, swimmers, outdoor recreationalists and wild life lose.
There was no answer to that but to me it indicated that the government departments make decisions based on the demands of the wealthy land owners.
The reason they win is because we dont be more proactive - there was something in taking strike action and bringing these bastards to their knees but today all we do is whinge and whine. The farmer in question has built his shearing shed over the paper road and it WILL stop everyone from going through because all we do is whine about it! The law is on their side because they can afford the best lawyers and it is never justice that wins - its the best lawyer!
I could never suggest that if the fence was totally destroyed and the wool shed as well one dark and stormy night and it happened every time the paper road was blocked as well as the paper road got bulldozed along to provide access THEN the land owner and DoC might realise that the people mean business…No Sir I could never suggest that because I am a good boy I am. The farmer should allow unhindered access along the farm track and make a deal with council to maintain it - Then there could be good will between land owner, council and road users.
Well it seems like the local council has been overwhelmed with response and postponed the hearing.nice to see a collective effort from all involved.
Yes indeed .I just received an email from council informing me that they are going to hold off its decision until council has had a chance to read all the submissions .
They are yet to set a date for their next meeting so good so see they are at least considering our point of view…nice one!!
Response received:
Thank you for your written statement regarding Item 2 - Restriction of vehicle access on ULR by Ben Lomond station. As Council received a number of statements in lieu of speaking over the weekend, the committee has decided to leave the item on the table so all of the statements can be read by the committee before making a decision. A date for the next meeting has yet to be set but the date will be advertised by the end of June.
Thanks
Andrew
That gives us time to rally up more people to make a statement… the more the better!
Would you be able to check with the council whether further submissions will be accepted?
Thanks for being part in this movement.
Hi Dan,
I got this reply from Council which makes me think I can do a submission. I’ve emailed them to confirm this.
Hi Simon
Council was not accepting submissions on the item today, it was just accepting a written statement in lieu of speaking. As Council received a number of statements in lieu of speaking over the weekend, the committee has decided to leave the item on the table so all of the statements can be read by the committee before making a decision. A date for the next meeting has yet to be set but the date will be advertised by the end of June.
Thanks
Andrew
I got a e mail saying the same thing , got to be a positive aye they could easily have just said nothing , plenty at steak here & if the full spectrum was involved there would many more submissions.
Hey guys yes QLDC have postponed and looking at the next submission process in 4-6 weeks time. Im going to try and attend the meeting in person and make a verbal submission.
Also ive heard today that there has been a causality already with a member of staff losing there job over the way this has been handled.
Supposedly Mountain Scene will also be doing a follow up with this as well plus there has been some interest from other media outlets regarding this story

I wrote a letter to Dan but have decided to share it. The reason for this is because there might be someone out there who knows more than I know which will not be hard and who has media connections.
In my opinion some of the ideas here might be of some use…or they might not. I am used to being shot down!
Knowing the legal system as I do I doubt if they will accept further submissions nor would a written statement suffice as there is a finite cut off date and these people are very pedantic in following correct procedure. Am I correct in this?
Letters to the editor and other forms of media exposure to gain support might also sway the Council because if it has a high profile the council want to be seen to do the right thing. Media exposure making sure several facets are clearly and precisely covered are needed 1) The stance of the land owner and his unfair demands for payments, 2) The landowners actions in constructing fences without gates over the paper roads and the construction of the wool shed, 3) The ADVANTAGES to the council of taking action on behalf of all parties who wish to gain access (there are many) 4) If needed a subtle ‘accusation’ of the council showing favouritism or a bias on behalf of the land owner and a comment that any elements in the council who show a bias toward the land owner may have a ‘vested interest’ (needs proving or conflicting interests such as personal friendship with landowner (needs proving)
With a little research much can be found out about the back ground and position of the decision makers! If close connections with the land owner can be proven then complaints laid to the appropriate authorities so that they are stood down from making any decisions in the case.
Graeme id definitely put in a submission as the deadline effectively has been moved this now shoudnt be an issue. Ive also raised with council how rushed this has been and it looks like they have listened to this feedback , lets use that as much to our benefit! The more people that do this the better!
Response has been great , though plenty of room for improvement , face value some mite be fooled into thinking this is a gold miners problem…a hobby one at that , but far from it , some hearty compainers when it comes to rites detecting over parks & reserves & all there rules etc mean while this is the very chore of access disputes , no matter what activity it is you want do so don’t hold back , The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Going to start carrying my battery grinder about more often
