I ended up buying a new one today didn’t think id get a reply being an older post . But thanks anyway if i end up needing another ill be in touch ![]()
Ok. You will probably find that the new one only comes with one coil, unless it is older stock. They used to come with two & the price of minelab detectors have gone up a fair bit recently.
Good luck

Anyone with a GM 1000 for sale?
Hi there. I have a GM 1000 I could be interested in selling. It comes with everything in the box from new. Please note though that it wont come with the bi pod stand that shows in the pics. Comes with 2 coils that new ones now don’t come with the 2nd 10x6 coil. New ones are about $1650.00 with just the one 5” coil. I would take $1250.00 including postage to you.
Cheers

Hi John
What depths will the 2 coils reach to?
Thanks Owen
Hi Owen. Rule of thumb is small coil smallish depth. Kind of stands to reason. The 10x6 coil being bigger will go deeper. The 5” coil is deadly on small/tiny gold. Loves shallow ground & bedrock & will get the tiniest of gold & really bangs on it. The 5” is the preferred coil by many which is probably why Minelab don’t include the 10x6 coil now as a 2nd coil but don’t mind putting the price up for removing it. The 5” is good in creeks as well. The Gold Monster is a small gold detector but does a very good job on it & simple to use & light weight. The bigger gold is pretty much gone these days as they are, or were, a loud signal & got easily when they were about. Still lots of small gold about & at the price of gold these days it adds up. That is where technology is going today with detectors. Getting better depth on the small/tiny gold, but they are pricey. GM 1000 still good value & does a good job. A mate of mine got the new 2000 & he doesn’t like it & going back to his 1000.
Going back to your question of depth. The bigger the gold the deeper they will get detected, but like I said the bigger bits are like hens teeth these days but with the 10x6 coil 6-8 inches. Where as still lots of small/tiny bits around but shallower depth on them, say 1-5 inches depending on their size & how they are laying in the ground. A flatter thin bit laying flat gives a bigger surface are to the coil to hit on & so deeper, but if it is up on edge then all the coil can see is the thin edge & the coil needs to be closer to it. The GM 1000’s bread & butter is the small shallow stuff. No matter where you go someone would more than likely been there before you & got any bigger bits but maybe not the small ones.
Cheers

Hi what does your mate not like about the new 2000 model?
Hi Westlander. I have three mates who have got the 2000. One thinks it is ok. The guy who doesn’t like it is a bit hard of hearing & although he hasn’t told me directly, I am picking that he doesn’t like the sound it makes as he most likely can’t hear it too well. Where as the 1000 does really bang on a signal & he does ok with the 1000. Maybe because the 2000 has a few more bells & whistles to it & that confuses him. I told him any new detector is going to maybe take a bit of adjusting to & to give it a bit more time. He is stuck in his ways & has made up his mind he doesn’t like it & going to stick to his 1000. From what I have seen on you tube I don’t know that I will be jumping in & getting one. A lot of guys on you tube sell them. So of course they are going to pump them up to create sales.
I am very happy with my GPX 6000 & the little 10x5 coiltek Goldhawk coil. That gets me some pretty small gold, & at a bit of depth. I know it finds small/tiny gold that the GM 1000 never got.
Here are a few bits I got yesterday arvo for a few hour detecting. The bigger bit was down quite deep & I have missed that bit with all my previous detectors & coils over the years. The ground wasn’t even wet. So it surprised the heck out of me.
E Biked into some old gold workings.

Thanks JW. Tried a 1000 here on the coast and got a lot of scrap metal, no nuggets!
Thought the 2000 might be a big advantage but like you say they hype it up to sell units. Think I will stick to washing rocks, cheers.
The 2000 is twice the price of the 1000. The 1000 has the iron/non ferrous indicator as does the 2000. So the numbers & other stuff on the 2000 for twice the price doesn’t really convince me. The best iron indicator is my rare earth magnet in the end of my pick handle. That never fails on iron.
From what I have seen on you tube there is not a lot in depth on gold, if anything, between the two. Funny thing is that some of the footage I have seen the guys starts off comparing both detectors on signal strength & depth but then just focus on the 2000. I am guessing because there is nothing in it & they are wanting to push the 2000 for sales & not have the 1000 keeping up with it. In fact I reckoned the 1000 banged harder & more precise. The 2000 gives more choices on discrimination & should I dig it or not. The other side of not digging a trash target & removing it is that it may be masking a gold signal. I have lost count of the number of times that has happened to me. Another good reason to get rid of a trash target is that as technology improves, as it has done, & you go back over good producing ground from the past that was kind to you, That target will still be there for you to get again. Where as if you removed it, then it is gone.
