Will you give them the gold you find in payment for the privilege of them letting you on their claim to find their gold that they have paid for the rights to mine & also for their expertise in “teaching” you on how to find their gold? Gold they can find for themselves.
Not asking much are you.

Hey Mate, im in Marlborough.
Iv been kindly granted access to some great claims around the place (some a couple of hours away) if you want to join me one day.
No idea how to use that metal Detector of yours but to be honest, i think you need to start from the start anyway… put the detector away and use that sluice and pan. When we start finding nice chunky bits as ya get out and unlock more land to your memoir is when you pull the detector out and learn that…
But shit… the chunky stuff isnt just sitting in easy access places so iv found out. Ya gotta really bloody get at er n go deep.
100% pissing in the wind starting out with a detector untill you know where to detect.

Hey man thanks so much that would be amazing ay

How can i get in contact man

Maybe they are. No need to be rude about it. Didn’t think this forum was about that. She was just asking a question.

I am not being rude, I am being factual. It costs a lot of money to get a claim. It also costs a yearly fee on top of that weather you find gold or not or even work your claim. You also have to pay a royalty on the gold you find. So it amuses me when people ask about getting access to some ones claim, & even more so when they ask to be shown how to go about finding gold & no mention of paying for the privilege. I am a lot more sinical these days as I have been used & burnt numerous times because I had a generous nature. I have lost that generous nature these days as you will see by my reactions to people who just come on here wanting a lot for nothing & they seem to ask for it with their very first post…
I also notice it is the ones who don’t have a claim but are wanting a hand out that complain about my comments. Like I said, it costs money to have a claim.

She was just asking if someone was prepared to show them. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Everything you says is true about the cost, etc, but that doesn’t mean she was wanting something for nothing. If you didn’t have anything nice to say, why say anything at all? You clearly weren’t interested in her proposal, so why not just move on. Sick of seeing this type of snarky stuff. It’s everywhere and it’s just not necessary.

I started this way, just asking. Now I have learnt a lot and meet some wonderful people. I will never forget and will all-ways do anything for the people that helped me. Keep asking people as there are a lot of good buggers out there all-ways ready to help and let you on there ground. One day I will have a claim and will allow it. One day

Yes, every one has to start somewhere. I will grant you that. You tube is full of footage that shows & tells all you need to know. It is also full of DIY making of your very own equipment. There are many books out there. Even by New Zealanders. Sandy & Judy Fairservice have two books. “Gold In Your Bottle” & a later release, “Gold For The Taking”. Tells you were to go, how to make a simple sluice box, tools you will need, some you can make & full of handy tips & the most likely places to look.
Tony Nolan has a book out, “New Zealand Gold Fossickers Handbook”
William Heinz also has a book out, “Prospecting For Gold”.
There are many public fossicking areas out there that cost you nothing to play in looking for gold. Some have camp grounds where you can hang out with like minded people. You are sure to make some friends & many are only too willing to help the newbie.
Sure you can come on here, with your very first post, & ask to have your hand held & guided on to someone’s claim & put on to some ground that may cough up some gold for you. But don’t hold your breath. If someone puts up their hand & does what you are asking then good on them & good for you.

It is funny though, as it is always the new people on here that ask for that rather than doing their own research & going to a public fossicking area & just get stuck in & move a bit of gravel. People these days always seem to want a short cut rather than doing the hard yards out in the field & learning for themselves through experience, which at the end of the day is the only way you are going to learn.

Good luck to you any way.

Wow I’m new here, this is what I’d like to ask to, is everyone on here like this? Are gold planners the meanest? Am I about to take on a hobby that will expose me to this kind of hate?
Please tell me this is a one off?

Mate not at all. We all started from scratch to learn. I was so lucky to find a really nice mentor and now i have my own claim. Keep at it. Its worth it and so much fun.

There’s no hate. Some people have been burnt and are sceptical of other people and I get that. Some dont realise other peoples situations. I live 500 ks away from a public site and have a disabled child so for someone to let me on there ground close to me is massive to me. You will only meet good people at the public sites as I have. Keep asking keep putting dirt over the pan and have fun.

JW maybe was a bit blunt, but makes a fair point. Asking for access to a claim is one thing, asking for lessons to use your equipment is another, but asking for both, in your first post? :joy:

Thank you madgoldnz.
I don’t know why it is that people that are new to this feel they need to go to some ones claim rather than just going to a public recreational area set aside by DOC. As I have said, they will meet like minded people who are mostly only too happy to help out & give advice.

@Hepplegate. Absolutely no hate on my behalf. I think you are slightly over reacting. Over the years I have helped many a person up a creek. Have taken complete strangers under my wing & up in the hills gold detecting. Some today are long time friends now & some, well lets just say they shat on me.
So what is your reason for wanting to get involved in this hobby?
Is it because gold is right up there in price these days & you think you will make your fortune? Is it because you have a love for the great out doors & what nature has to offer when you are out there among it arse up in a creek shifting rocks, maybe jamming a few fingers in the process. Just loving the process of moving gravel & if you are lucky coming away with a few specks & flakes of gold. Because you are going to have to do that with a passion because gold doesn’t come easy. You have to work at it & you are going to get wet. Cold time of the year to start doing that. You may find out that it just isn’t really as easy as you think & the gold doesn’t pour in like it seems to on the TV programmes. Then you may not stick with it as it isn’t for you. But if you stick at it you will see your little pile of gold slowly increase. You won’t know until you give it a crack. I am just trying to paint a realistic picture for you. Not the hype you see on Aussie gold hunters & gold rush Alaska etc.
Some times it is the people you meet along the way & friends you make at the DOC camp grounds. The shits & giggles you have at the end of a day around a camp fire while sinking a few frothy ones. That can be the real gold. Any metallic gold is just a bonus & icing on the cake.

Best of luck out there.

I dont see any hate. If people headed to the public fossicking sites they would meet lots of really helpful people. I would say the more dirt you are moving the more information you will get.

Thanks ShotoverMoonlight. You are dead right & what I am trying to convey myself about the public areas.
The only reason I can see for people wanting access to claims is that they think there is going to be better & bigger & more gold on them.

Best of luck out there

Yeah but for some people the closest public aera is hours away for me its over 2-3 hours away and I know there is claims closer to me and off course if ur going on someone else’s claim you always offer to split or let them have all ur findings its only polite . But as im new and know nothing I was looking for someone to teach me and show me the ropes there is no harm in asking . And the comment did come across abit rude but hey im not looking for drama just looking for someone to teach me the ropes

I have to travel 3 1/2 hours to my fossicking sites. Its a hobby where often the jouney is more fun. A long weekend away is perfect.

I am speaking as one of these people whom you have no idea about yet seem to feel you do. I came on to ask and see what came back. I a, learning, and am not interested in anything more than sitting by a creek, with my dog, my knitting and the fun of maybe finding some. I am really put off by your comment. I am an honest ethical and morally upfront 59 year old. I have zero reason to screw anyone over. It’s very hard to find info on the net for people like me. Hence coming on here.
My mother always said, if you cant not contrube anything of value then don’t. All you did sir is put me off, which I now realise was your goal. So I have put my big girl pants back on, and am going to do just that.
