Nice one Mal. Man, the Aorere Goldfield got slammed back in the day. I have just finished reading Aorere Gold The History of the Golden Bay Goldfields 1856-1863. by Mike Johnston. Bloody good read & a lot of effort & research has gone in to that. I am surprised you found any gold at all. LOL. Did you get your 1 gram?
I like it there myself but haven’t been there for years. I found some gold in Doctors Creek & was staying in the Collinwood camp ground. That wood have been around 2000. How time fly’s.

Regarding Mike Johnston book on Aorere Gold 1856 - 1863. I believe he is actually writing a trilogy of books on the Golden Bay Goldfields. I would imagine the next one will cover the Aorere from 1864 onwards, and the other, Taitapu Goldfield or NZ Forgotten Goldfield. So there is plenty more to come.

Yes. The second part of the history, Mohua Gold, takes the story to the end of the provincial government era in 1876 & examines the progress of alluvial mining in the established diggings. It also recounts the hopes of finding new goldfields, along with the expectation that rich quartz reefs, the suspected source of the river gold, would themselves be unearthed.
