Macetown Road Access- Gates being Erected

If people are not already aware the road to Macetown will have a permanent gate on it at Britannica terrace. All vehicles wanting to enter Macetown will need to pay a fee to use the road. Prices are expected to be $40 per vehicle although this hasn’t been confirmed. New CCTV and number plate recognizing cameras will be installed.

There are a number of claim owners who this effects and it has been decided that they will get free access

If you are are claim owner please email me with your contact details so I can pass this on.

Im not sure when this will start but from discussions it sounds like it will be relatively soon.

What a shame about the access, is it for the purpose of making money, or have the 4x4 boys been hitting the hills, nice spot to visit up there, cheers for the update

Who is doing that & who gets the money. Will claim owners get a key to the gate? I suppose it will happen on the Skippers road too.

Good point about who gets the $$ I didn’t think there was any toilets up there or any mowed areas?

An expensive campsite now that a lot of people won’t be able to afford. If it’s not really a road that’s part of the maintained roading network then you have to wonder why a vehicle needs to be registered to drive it. It’s clearly a 4wd track so you’d think unregistered 4wds and trail bikes would be OK. Yet the toll road policing will rely on number plate recognition. No wonder the charge is so exorbitant. What is the cost of this set up.

My understanding is that the limited maintenance on the track is no longer going to happen (I think this was done in the past by the local council).
The fee will go towards maintenance of the track.

Thanks for the heads up
Whereabouts is Brittania terrace, is it the worked area at the turnoff to Scoles?

Its due to the damage caused by vehicles to the road due to the large number of vehicles plus weather events of the last few years. The road is actually on private property and has been generously maintained in some part by council.

Vehicle access needs to be maintained die to the overseas investment conditions when the land was sold. However this needs to be paid for somehow.

All money received im told are being managed by a independent trust and will be used to go only to road upkeep

My understanding is it will be the bit where there is a 2 rock walls either side of the road so vehicles cannot bypass .

Interesting, I think need to have a turn-around area, don’t want anyone reversing over the side

$40 for a trip, or $100 for a season pass is pretty reasonable, great that this work is being done proactively before the road becomes too run down to fix up
