Hey Team,
Hit the gold fever down in Arrowtown just before Xmas spent two days panning with my partner. We found nothing but had a blast at Arrowtown and the Shotover river, went home ordered some pans, classifer and a 6" mini dream mat sluice for the Xmas break, got some camping gear and went to Moonlight Creek, New Creek, Lyell Creek and back to Slab Hutt for the xmas break.
Loved every moment of it from getting eaten alive by sand flys, getting drenched in rain while setting up and taking down camp to getting lost where the exit track to the carpark was at night when it was getting dark to spending an hour sucking up flakes of pyrite thinking we had hit it big . Either way, I think we are both HOOKED.
We have both spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos (including all the local channels ) and reading up on where the gold drops and setting up the sluice and panning. But the reality is that while we spent a lot of time there and had heeps of fun and meet lots of nice people, we didn’t find a lot of gold. While it doesn’t really bother either of us much, we would like to improve our success rate.
We ended up finding 0.01 gram over the 4 days at the coast.
Hence, I thought I would reach out to the local community and see if anyone who has a good running success rate is interested in teaching us at the river mainly how to set up the sluice correctly, tips and tricks and where we should be looking for gold and anything else which can improve our success rate.
I am happy to reward someone with a bottle of spirts or whatever is deemed resonable for their time and efforts. Please let me know if this is of interest to anyone or if there is any groups or arrangements for this kind of thing.
Preference to the West Coast.
Many thanks, Jonny & Ryan
