So this first set of pictures is the area you thought it could possibly be.
I was incorrect that pub on the intersection is called the Ben Nevis. As you can see on that paddock it’s fairly dry with a creek running through that as stated floods big maybe once in a decade
These are further up the highway in an area that is “swampy” right next to the river and the other, now closed pub that its more likely to be.
That is the Marton turn off. Nowhere near were they bike is supposed to be or certainly not what I was told. I was led to believe it was back by the Turakina river near the bottom of the hill
The comment directly above yours show the old pub and the swampy area right next to the Turakina Bridge
