Been browsing this site for years, searching for hints on where to find some good gold in my area. Found a 10year old post from a fella kiwikeith, ended up checking out a creek he recommended (rocky creek, taipo river, west coast). He posted that it was a bit of an effort to get there, but well worth the effort. Anyway, did a mission there today with the pan and didnt find a speck of colour. Thought oh well, i will track him down and ask for some advice, only to find he has recently passed on. Sounds like he was a well respected member of the community and im sure if he were around would point me in the right direction. Rip kiwikeith, we lose alot of knowledge when these old boys move on
Kiwi Keith was indeed a great guy who was always happy to share tidbits to help others. I had the great pleasure to meet him on several occasions.
Funnily enough I checked out that Rocky Creek also… far too steep and huge boulder packed was my conclusion. Any gold will be getting trapped under the big boulders I reckon and not getting a chance to move much.
Yes. RIP Kiwikeith.

Cheers for the reply. Bloody steep alright, was wondering about the gold vs the big boulders, shes a wild place! I have an uncle in murchison who came across an old timers diary for his area, the information in it is incredible! Every creek he has prospected, where the gold is in each creek including elevation and hand drawn maps!! Might have to sweet talk some info out of him!. Maybe i will leave rocky for now and have a look elsewhere
That old timers diary sounds like an awesome resource!!
