Gold panning in Canterbury

Hi I am new to gold panning, have invested into both bullion and shares in a mining company. Yesterday I was fishing for Khawhai at the Waimakariri Beach and I happened to have my pan there where I was practice panning.

I put two clumps of dirt in the pan and panned it and found two specks of what looked clearly like gold! Unluckily I forgot to take a photo and didn’t recover them. If anyone could give a professional opinion of what these minerals could of been if they were not legitimately gold ?

Also wondering if panning is even allowed to be done at the Waimak ?

Panning is not allowed but I think you would have to be hard done by if you got your hand smacked. Gold would not be on top of the sand as it sinks until it sits on bedrock or clay and there has not been any gold found in the Waimak to my knowledge

Well I’m a Libertarian and think there should be more freedom to pan in more places rather than just 17. They would have to catch you. We don’t live in a communist country lol.

I’m not sure what this stuff was, it was metallic, small, light and flaky, if it was not gold what do you think it could of been ? Plastic.

Has it not been found closer inland by the tributaries of the river going through the alps ?
