The Pros & Cons. Where do you stand?

Selling us down the drain again. Wake up New Zealand and if these materials can be mined then make it a state owned enterprise so that the people of New Zealand benefit from the profit.
Since when was Ilmenite white? First I knew.
If you use it you should be prepared to mine it in your own backyard. Better to get our minerals here than from some far away country with slim to non existent regulations and no regard for human life or nature. If we do it here we can strike a good balance between getting the benefits from mining while doing it sustainably. In saying that we should be doing it ourselves and keep the profits in the country. Foreign companies should not be allowed to mine here and take the profits offshore.
Since when can you trust the government & a state owned/run enterprise? They couldn’t run a piss up in a brewery. You can guarantee the profit won’t go to where it should. If there ever was/is a profit. The people of NZ would be the last to see any of it. Honesty & integrity is out the window these days. As long as the politicians get their fat salaries & perks they will just continue slagging their oppositions & out source the work that they should be doing. All care, no responsibility. Blame someone else when things stuff up. No accountability.
I could go on about the old NZ Rail & that balls up. But I won’t because many of you will be aware of that. Take a look at the price of electricity… Every house should have solar panels but the Government don’t want that because my understanding is that the Govt owns the majority share holdings in the power companies. So if we all had solar then no money in that for the Govt. Best thing I ever did was get solar. At the moment the sun is free. Same with solar hot water.
I wouldn’t trust the Govt as far as I could kick them. The days & life of old have well & truly gone. This ain’t NZ any more. That’s my rant.

Agree with you re the government running mining. Its inefficient and governments are in the business of governing not running a business.
Although on the topic of solar panels the issue with installing them on houses is it would require a massive grid upgrade to transfer the power.
Small modular nuclear reactors close to max usage is the cleanest and cheapest source of power and easily scalable. Sorry not taking gold but thought id put that out there
Given the $billions in resources stripped from the West Coast historically we should have gold plated public infrastructure. What we have is barely a pot to piss in.
Boom bust cycles don’t help the locals or the country.
