Hi wondering if anyone has a pdf of a 1869 haast geology report" geology of the kakahu and neighbouring districts sth canterbury" report is 269 pages 3 pages of hand drawn pics. Typeface is very very poor top half of every word is nearly non existent no ink.
I dont want the 1933 p,b maling 80 odd page revised one with the same title i would pay $50 buck upon receiving it.
Does this have some of the info? 1879. The archive says its 269 pages but its actually a lot larger. Odd. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aBYE5Z4tnLM4RI-sAgJS8glnNMpzCU08/view?usp=sharing
Unfortunately not pirate thom but ty the reply, helluva good read some of that, i,e lake taylor lake sumner stuff i had no idea miners were ever up there. Theres some other stuff in that where haast talks of being up the sides of valleys 800 feet above named rivers and the gold thats there. i near guarantee ya to this day no ones been there. Its got some wicked stuff on human skeletons he found in caves and paintings in caves he recon malayan and indian heritage way pre dating maori. History never made public ima guess cause no one reads em lol.
Also ya may notice in that report when he talks about gold he does it mostly from a previous geologist narrative, but when he gets excited he forgets to do so. I believe this report and any of his that come after, he has been told to tone down his mentions of gold or even that that is not what hes been hired for and to stop reporting on it.
Especially if ya read the 1933 mailing revision version of the report im after, i recon mailing was hired to discredit haast in respect of gold locations. I found a pdf of the one im after a very long time ago, and lost it when i upgraded tablet a year back. The discrepencays wre wickid, and if ya study both geologists one has a solid history of finding gold in alaska then victoria aussie then here ie mcrays in 1863 and one has no gold finds much at all.
Ty very much reply , what part of the country you in thom ?
Funny you mention the page number being wrong as odd thom the more ive studied haasts stuff the more very odd stuff ya will find. Where are all his reports from doing the divide between west and east coast, they dont exist at all, and who owns that land or the stewardship of it doc. And would ya believe doc only manage the land on behalf of the local councils that own it. You try explaining that to either doc or the council, neither have any knowledge but i assure ya its true. From rds and rivers that all changed names in or around 1933. The 1933 maling version of haasts report has codeword title: Transit: on the report its a geology report, for phuks sake how the heck its called that is beyond me. A lot of skullduggery happened in or around 1933 all i believe to hide the existence of gold in nz. Those reports are ours paid for with ratepayers money and should be public knowledge but in relation to doc land they dont even exist wtf.
I’m up in Hauraki/Coro but have just travelled through Haast and plan on going back soon. I could definitely move down that way if I find work. Incredible part of the country. There is some great correspondence from that time period as well. I’ll attach it here, it’s small enough.
