Yes there is. Hard to find but small amounts.
We are going to be traveling around Otago area for a couple of weeks over new year and don’t know our way around, have done some prospecting around the top of the Island, so keen to find were to go while we are there. any help would be good.
Look at the very top of the main page & click on Locations. Then click on fossicking areas & all the public area maps will pop up. Scroll down to Central Otago.

has anyone ever put anything in the private claims section of locations. cant say i have ever seen any but then i dont look in that section often
There is some there but very fine, and it is a very small area you can cover, which has been worked heavily over the years especially due to its proximity to Dunedin. Possibly the smallest and most overworked of all the public fossicking sites, but don’t let that deter you, could still be some hidden pockets! Just a bit harder to work, but if if you are not adverse to that then no worries!!

Oh to clarify, after a day out there this week, we found <50mgs worth between two of us, but was our first time going there too.
Recommend you try the Arrow fossicking area instead. It’s much easier to find some colour there panning, and more pleasant in general.
