Claim Notices to deter the Public/Oppurtunists

Howdy All,
Just curious - as a new claim owner - what old mouldy’s do in terms of posting notices around their claims to warn/deter public bandits not to play on their claims? Obviously you can sign post the Claim number around the area - but what’s else enforceable or good deterrents? I wouldn’t mind checking out my area for a wee while first - but frankly, I don’t want others around when I’m not there or without permission. I’ve seen the piss people take (rightly or wrongly) on public claims - and don’t want mine to be a free-for-all!
Cheers in advance

Congrats on the new claim. In my experience the best “deterrent” is a mix of clear signage + evidence you’re actively monitoring, rather than trying to write something that sounds legally scary.

A few practical ideas:

  • Put multiple weatherproof signs at obvious access points with claim name/number, “permission required”, and a simple contact method.

  • Consider a small “logbook” style sign-in note (even if it’s just for honest people) and make it clear you’ll report unauthorised activity.

  • If it’s remote, a couple of discreet trail cams (where legal) can help—sometimes just having signage saying “area monitored” is enough.

  • Talk to neighbouring claim holders so locals know it’s not abandoned ground.

For the wording, I’d keep it simple and factual (avoid threats), and if you want to sanity-check any recovered jewellery/odd bits later for melt value, this calculator is handy: https://mygoldcalc.com

Cheers Sam for the advice.
First day on the Claim and we already had our first couple of fossickers show up - claiming ignorance.
Thanks

did you put up signs that they couldnt miss seeing

Cheers - that’s exactly what this topic is about and the questions I was asking.

Good luck DOC just want cash , NPAM are just collecting your money for the government what’s left the police well they have bigger fish to fry you need old school law and cameras

Cheers Pil,

We’re preferring to go for signage, cameras and lawful route…… possibly name and shame if they’re a$$holes. Our area is only small, historically worked and we’ve paid good coin for it. It’s a risk venture and we need to recoupe our costs first rather than Joe public helping themselves.

Fingers crossed we find some good colour - otherwise we’ve paid for a expensive sentence of hard labour for nout!
