Someone contacted me with this find of a possible alluvial silver nugget found in a Canterbury east coast river:
He’s going to get it checked with a jeweler to see if it’s really silver.

She did indeed tell me which river, but I promised to keep it secret unless he’s happy for me to make it public.

Just walking the river, I collect agetes etc , it has had the scratch test with the solution and it was silver

WOW, that’s cool & a stonker of a native silver nugget if that is the case. How did he/she, you don’t seem sure,
come across it? Surely it wasn’t just sitting there. So the two possible rivers I reckon are either the Wilberforce or the Rakaia due to gold bearing reefs in the headwaters of the Wilberforce which flows into the Rakaia. Mums the word if you confirm. I certainly won’t be going to have a look.

I believe so from the updates she gave me above.

Thats awesome!! Wish I knew more about silver in NZ, I prefer silver to gold personally… except the price i suppose haha.
If anyone has any resources to point me at for more info on silver in NZ, I would appreciate it greatly 
I have done preliminary searching for info but always easier if someone has refined the process and more directed leads.
