Public area gold

Wow, amazing!

This question might sound a little bit dumb, but is it possible to find that much gold with just an ordinary pan? I guess that youā€™re dredging the bottom of a river, but are there any chances to find nice sized nuggets like that outside the rivers.

Thanks.

Non of the gold was dredged mate, all pan and shovel or snipe. Itā€™s most certainly possible to pan big nuggets, you just need to be at the right place at the right time

Cool! That gives me hope for the future :grinning: When you say ā€œsnipingā€ do you mean like hunting with a metal detector? If thatā€™s the case, what kind of detector are you using? I have my trusty old X-Terra 705, would that be a good machine for nugget hunting you think? Last two questions, do you need to get a permission to hunt on public lands, or can you just do it without even asking anyone? Are you hunting on private, or public lands?

Iā€™m sorry for bothering you with all these questions, but I find this very interesting, and Iā€™m really impressed by your finds. I would love to find my own gold someday, and next year might just be my chance since Iā€™m planning to go on a trip to New Zealand, and stay there for a year

You wonā€™t find much with a detector really, sniping is just diving in the river and searching by hand. Have a look on YouTube for ideas.

Mad respects buddy as my dad woulda said, son that manā€™s committed.
Really inspiring Iā€™m looking at panning on the west coast probs next year.
