Hi there Floss. Gosh, the GM 1000 has to be the most simple turn on & go detector out there. Nothing complicated about it at all. 5 years is a long time to have not worked it out. If you are meaning you have found no gold with it then you are possibly not using it where gold is present. The GM 1000 is deadly on the small tiny gold. It doesn’t punch overly deep but is really good as a bed rock detector getting those tiny bits caught up in the cracks & crevices of the bed rock that the big boy detectors will miss. That type of gold is its bread & butter.
Where have you been trying?

It won’t be a GPX 9000 as there isn’t one. There is a GPX 6000 that these days is about $9000.00 but it isn’t 12k. There is a GPZ 7000 that is about 11k.

I actually haven’t tried much if I’m honest, however I think, from reading what I was.last week, I’ve been using the wrong coil? It looked simple - point and shoot type thing but I guess I thought maybe I was missing something. Im going to change the coils over and se how that goes. I’m in Alexandra so there are plenty of spots to give it a try.

Also, I’ve not been out much because I’m not 100% sure I’m not going to end up in the wrong place and get into trouble

Well you are in a gold area that is for sure. There are no Recreational fossicking areas in your area where you can go legally. But if you know of areas that were mined back in the day, there are lots in your neck of the woods, that aren’t claimed, then just go have a scratch. You will need to target bed rock for your best chance with the Gold Monster. The 5" coil is the one to use but the 10x 6 isnt too shabby either & due to it being bigger than the 5" should punch a bit deeper. The coils are water proof, so you can stick them under water. Just be aware that as the coil breaks the surface of the water it will give a false signal. But once under all is good. The Gold Monster & most VLF detectors also don’t like concentrations of iron sand. So the Shotover, Arrow & Cardrona are no good for it. But over your way you should be good. You just need to target bedrock.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I’ve had the kids in the Arrow digging holes and just having a bit of fun, a few times but as you can imagine, we weren’t successful. They didn’t really care though. Was just about getting out and having some fun. You’re right about there being no public gossiping areas around here which is why I’ve been reluctant. I thought about heading out Blue Lake way, St Bathan’s, but just haven’t made it.
Really appreciate the advice. Will do a bit more research and try and find a spot that won’t get me locked up haha!

Public ā€˜gossiping’ areas…plenty of those around! Obviously, I meant fossicking!

Well it must be that one and a week after he gets it it will be mine to go with my Gmail 1000 so I will have 2 I don’t no how to use properly lol

Practise makes perfect. You need to learn to walk before you run. Doesn’t happen over night. One thing a detector can’t do is to make gold appear where it isn’t. It has to be there in the first place. Outside of learning & knowing your detectors ability & getting the best out of it is one thing. The other thing is learning about gold & how it got to where it is or could be & waving your coil over it. That is a whole new ball game. Reading the ground, knowing the indicators, true prospecting. Lots of places where gold used to be but just isn’t there any more because some one else has already got it. There is a lot more to it than just swinging a coil over the ground.

I’ll either hit it big or fail dude I’m looking where haast and other early chaps said it should be but it hasn’t been found yet,I’ve read one of his early reports over 50 times one area where I did find some small stuff now has about 4 feet o snow, will do until Oct Nov as I said a post of yours from yrs ago says ya been there.

Yep. Got to be out there looking to stand any chance at all. Win some. lose some.

Good luck.
