Best value detector under $500 ? Under $1k?

Hi guys, any recommendations on good value-for-money detectors at a reasonable price for a beginner.

My 4 year old son got a little toy detector for his birthday a while ago which we have used to find endless nails and bits of tin buried around the house. I’m now thinking of getting a big-boy version for myself, but a bit intimidated by the variety available out there.

I’m thinking of something suitable for general beach and park work,

I’m also well over 6ft tall if that makes any difference ?
